Before setting out with a full scale model, I thought it would be a good idea to try making smaller versions. This set would be more complicated than the collaboration with Joe as it have many more layers. I didn't particularly want the set to have rely on a corner space either as I am not currently aware of what kind of space i'd have in the Final Grad show.
Please see A4 Sketchbook for details and notes on each of these set experiments
Attempt 1- Too many sharp angles and also too flat. This doesn't create the illusion of depth in the image.
Attempt 2- Too wide and shallow in depth. I have however added a curved wall which makes it more suggestive as a ship deck.
Attempt 3- In this set, the deck was made much deeper and narrower to try and suggest the perspective. This definitely would not work if I made this on a larger scale, it would not be wide enough for the largest papercut in the foreground. Especially considering the characters get smaller, the set needs to be wider in the foreground get smaller towards the back.
