Paper Self-portrait for High Noon Website

For the website, everyone has been asked to create a 10 x 10 cm self portrait to appear alongside their work on the website. This is obviously going to viewed by a lot of different people and possible agencies and clients. With is in mind, I wanted to make it reflective on my practice and personality. The last self portrait didn't have many distinctive references to my appearance. I decided on focusing on the half bun hairstyle I usually scrape my hair into everyday. I would also make my hair light-being blonde. The self-portrait had to be in black and white. This is particularly difficult for me to get my practice across, especially as my practice is usually about bright colours. This i felt meant I couldn't really get across my practice so well through my self-portrait. Obviously my work would also be showcased on the website as well so that could suggest my use of colour instead.

Similar to my last attempt at a paper self-portrait I started with a reference selfie....

Then I drew out a copy straight onto tracing paper, marking out the different layers I needed to cut out....

There ended u being 10+ layers on this papercut...(maybe too many) but I wanted to show a good sense of structure. As you can also see I decided to define the hair with line drawing in purple ink. This hopefully would show up when converted into black and white.

Once finished with the hair, I contemplated about facial features. As seen in my recent work, I tend not to include them, focusing on characteristics and accessories they are wearing. After asking around, it appeared that my peers thought I should add eyes into the self portrait.

This was my submission for the High Noon website. I am actually really happy with the overall look of the paper cut. Although, It did make me realise that I didn't need to include so many layers especially when they can not be seen in the final image. This will cut down my making time and hopefully I can generate more work quickly and successfully.
