Initial drawings

  • To start off this project, I have been reverting back my ink and brush techniques. These are to start capturing the essence of my Grandparents lives. The first few drawings were drawn with black ink with a hint of colour. Even though I liked the expressiveness of the drawings, I felt they lacked life and would not interest a wide audience. The third image of the pink building was leaning more towards what I imagined my work to look like- This consists of using bold coloured shapes as a base and then drawing details in black as a secondary layer. I have demonstrated this technique in the last two images, where I have selected a small but bright colour palette. Also I have experimented with a variation of line quality. I found that the dry brush in the second last image works particularly well to illustrate texture in the background landscape. This compares to the mark making in the last image that I think at the most causes distraction from the characters in the image. The last two images are also large scale, I honestly think that when working with this technique, my work is more effective the larger it is. This is fortunate for my project that I aim to result in large pieces of 3D work.
