Expatriate

For the Major Project, I will be creating a series of illustrative performance pieces based my grandparents lives as expats. From an early age, I have heard many stories about their travels and adventures around the world between the 1950s, all the way up to the 1990s. It is an integral part of my recent family history and has effected my parents' approach to introducing my sister and myself to culture through travelling to different countries. To link this authorial project to my previous 'performance' work, I intend on translating my grandparents stories into a performance piece, transforming them and the people they meet along the way into characters and the locations and houses they visit/live in into set designs. To aid my project I will be implementing a variety of resources that include old family photographs, voice recordings and observational drawing as primary research. As well as researching into social, historical and political histories around the time they were expats to give the project more depth and context to be appreciated by a wide audience.

In reflection of my last project, it was made clear that my exploration of paper art wasn't as accomplished as other techniques such as my ink and brush drawing skills. As I still want to make my work interactive and 'performative', I intend on exploring new avenues that i can fuse my interests and career ambitions with my current illustration skillset.
